Midwifery 101

One of our summer projects was to shoot a couple FAQ videos about the work done in our practice. Because we are a collaboration of midwives and nurse practitioners (two professions that sometimes lead to blank stares on people’s faces), we tend to hear the same questions a on a fairly regular basis. So rather than try and answer people’s queries one at a time, “why not just make a video? we thought. Why not indeed.

So without further ado, here is the first installment of our FAQ series, amply named “Midwifery 101.” We hope you like it!

Well hello there!

Welcome to our new blog! The team at Access Midwifery and Family Care is thrilled to finally climb aboard the blogging express with this inaugural post… And what better way to kick things off than with a little meet and greet? So without further ado, here’s what you need to know about us as a practice:

We believe that every person– regardless of financial or social barriers– deserves access to quality health care. We also believe that all women should have care during their childbearing years that meets their needs for service, safe care, information sharing and accessibility. Get it? That’s why they call us ACCESS Midwifery and Family Care!

As health care providers, our midwives and nurse practitioners form mutually respectful partnerships with clients built on trust and continuity of care. We help clients make informed choices about their health, and we always promote healthy decision-making.

Finally, we believe that care should be provided based on an understanding of your lived experience. This includes respect for social, cultural, emotional, spiritual and physical realities. In other words we’re here to help, no matter what challenges you’re facing.

And there you have it– that’s AMFC in a nutshell! Thanks for reading our first ever post, and be sure to check back for updates… We’re so happy to be here!
